PlayStation Access has released a new video of an interview with the Senior Producer of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst about the gameplay features of the upcoming first-person open-world free-runner game.

Producer Sarah Jansson discussed how DICE has created a bigger, more living city in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, with no loading times that allow players to experience the entire metropolis in a holistic sense. Additionally, there is a completely new combat system, which Faith utilizes to ‘disable’ her opponents.

“Faith will fight, but she doesn’t kill,”

“Now the fighting is more of an extension of the movement. It builds on the flow. It fits a lot better with the game mechanics. When Faith is in flow, when she stitches together move after move without failing and keeps her momentum going, she’s actually invulnerable to bullets. That can keep her out of harm’s way. It’s only when she stops that she can get hurt.”

Jansson also talked about what role collectibles will play in the game. Many of the collectibles will allow players to uncover additional secrets regarding the story, while most of them will emphasize on challenges and giving a new perspective to accomplishing tasks through environmental interaction.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will tell the origin story of the series’ protagonist Faith, a free-runner who wishes to use her incredible acrobatic and close-quarter combat skills to uncover the dark secrets behind the oppressive ruling elites of the city.

The game will be released on February 23 next year for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
