Konami recently held a Q&A session for its upcoming MGS 5: The Phantom Pain in which it talked about the Mother Base customization, Forward Operating Bases, and more.
First of all, Konami confirmed that there is no co-op feature to defend FOBs. Players can defend their friends’ bases in their stead, but there is no way to do it together.
Speaking of the Mother Base and FOB design, Konami confirmed that players will have the freedom of placing defenses as per their preference. Furthermore, they will also be able to decide up to what level they want each area covered:
This includes how many soldiers, security devices, or high-powered weapons are available in each area.
In addition to this, players will be able to do a number of side-activities on the Mother Base such as shooting practice, speaking and fighting with Diamond Dogs, and even bathing. Players will require a Playstation Plus or Xbox Live membership for
Metal Gear Online and FOBs, though, they will be able to develop and customize FOBs online. Lastly, there will not be any need of purchasing anything in order to complete or build any kind of structure.
