Whether you are a fan of Destiny or hate it, there is no ignoring the fact that people are investing time in it, and more importantly having fun. They put their time and skills into kitting out and levelling up their Guardian, taking great pride in what they have created.
The good news for fans is there is plenty more Destiny to come, in fact there is a plan to evolve the game over a ten year period, and beyond that who knows?
With this long-term plan comes the problem of the Guardians themselves, how will they evolve? The good news is that Bungie will protect all the hard work you have put into them, whatever future changes may come. Speaking to GamesRadar, Engineering Lead Luke Timmins has said:
“We certainly take it seriously that Destiny is a ten-year thing. It’s a long-term thing and with these adventures that we’re adding my contract to you – and any player – is that your Guardian will always be there. We’re going to keep adding new stuff for you to do and I’d hope you’ll look at The Taken King and be like, ‘I’m looking forward to logging on again and hooking friends online’.”
Players will likely take a lot of comfort in these words, even without the future evolution of the game. High-level characters take a lot of work to create, so does finding the best armour and weaponry. Even the hint of a server wipe taking away all of that work would lead to much annoyance in the community that has been built up around the game.
Now the question has to be, can Bungie keep the players interested in the game for the full ten years? In the near future, we have plenty to come, especially with The Taken King that will keep them invested. After that we’ll just have to wait and see.
