In case you are one too reminisce over what could have been, check out this one hour long gamplay footage of the cancelled Star Wars Battlefront III.
Do keep in mind that this is just a prealpha footage and so the experience can not be compared with the upcoming Star Wars title in any way except for the features that they were planning to include in this one.
As you can see in the video, the developers were pretty ambitious about the title and the features they were planning to add to it – for instance the drop pods you see in the footage.
While fans on one hand might think that this is what the potential is for a new Star Wars title, and even argue that EA should have done more in light on this, there would be others who disagree.
I say that because sometimes trying to cram a lot of stuff into a single product does more harm to it than good. Where a studio could have been able to make a polished game with fewer features, they might end up with a mediocre game (or no game for that matter) if they are overly ambitious.
In the case of Star Wars Battlefront III it was a bit of that and a bit more of mismanagement that led to the game’s cancellation.
