With the US women’s national team winning the World Cup on July 5 questions started to be raised on if one of the stars of the team would be included on the front of this year’s FIFA 16 alongside Lionel Messi.
The answer to this has been revealed and it is yes. The player selected is Alex Morgan who performed so well in the final, which saw the team dominating against Japan.
Morgan now 26 years-old has been part of the US team since 2010, has made 91 appearances and scored 52 goals. Not only a winner of a World Cup medal she was also part of the team that won at the 2012 Olympics in London. She was named 2012 US Soccer athlete of the year and is a finalist for FIFA World Player of the Year.
Morgan won’t be the only female player to be included on this year’s FIFA 16 cover. To celebrate the hosting of the event in Canada, Christine Sinclair will be on the cover for her host country and Stephanie Catley will be the cover star for Australia.
“As soon as we knew Women’s National Teams were joining FIFA 16, we immediately recognized that Christine and Alex would be the perfect cover athletes based on their accomplishments and what they represent for their respective countries and the sport of women’s soccer,” said David Pekush, Sr. Manager of North America Marketing for EA SPORTS. “They are exhilarating players and exude heart and courage on the pitch, and we are extremely proud to be working with them this year.”
Alex Morgan was one of the football stars who helped EA add the women’s national teams into FIFA 16. Along with other US teammates, they visited the development studios in Canada to provide motion-capture footage that will be used within the game.
