Call of Duty: BlacK Ops 3 is currently under development at Treyarch, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. According to the studio, they aren’t fans of adding additional prestige levels in Black Ops 3 after release. Meaning we shouldn’t expect more levels once the game hits shelves later this year.
Speaking about not adding more levels after release, David Vonderhaar said the following on Reddit:
We are not fans of adding Prestige Levels after launch. We wanted Prestige to have an end goal and off ramp. It’s why we gave it a name (Master Prestige) and removed the level icon when you hit it. We do think there is a room to do interesting things to highlight a Master Prestige player that keeps playing that is NOT adding more prestige levels.
It’s designed, but not implemented yet, and I don’t want to put my foot in my mouth in case it doesn’t happen for scope or schedule reasons.
Other developers who have handled Call of Duty’s development added more levels after release. One example in Sledgehammer Games who added around 15 levels in Advanced Warfare. Similar was the case with Infinity Ward, who added 10 levels after Modern Warfare 3 came out.
Prestige levels have added to the lifespan of COD games over the years so if Treyarch won’t add more of them, it will be interesting to see what else they have in mind.
On the other hand many will welcome this decision as there is nothing more frustrating then grinding for months to reach max prestige level, only to find out developers have added more.
Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is coming to all major platforms on November 6.
