We have seen dozens of iterations of Mario in the past; ranging from the good old times when we used to be kids and didn’t even care what the graphics were up to the most recent releases when Nintendo has really upped the game.
However, we have not seen him running around in Unreal Engine 4 – at least officially.
A YouTuber decided to experiment and “apparated” him into an environment taken from the Unreal Engine 4 marketplace. He looks pretty pumped up, almost restless for bounding up and down all over the place – but isn’t that how we have always played with him?
Here is Mario running in Unreal Engine 4, all the environment assets were taken from the Unreal marketplace, all the character actions were scripted using blueprints only, all animations were re-created from scratch as well as the PBR ready textures.
So yeah, this is what you might get if you have always wished to get a Mario game running the best of 3D graphics. The good old plumber looks pretty sharp from what the video shows, but obviously a good game is more than just that.
Check out the video above and tell us if you would want an Unreal Engine 4 based Mario game and then we can sit and discuss how that is not going to happen.
