Free games are always popular, but it is fair to say that Microsoft haven’t really impressed with their Games with Gold offerings. Feeling like a copy of what Sony had done with their Playstation Plus subscription, it didn’t really feel like the company’s heart was in it.
Things have slowly been changing and starting in July the games on offer may start to improve, unless the latest announced games are just a one off.
With July marking the two years anniversary of the start of the Games with Gold program, Microsoft are looking to offer something a little substantial, especially for Xbox One games with the offer of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag as well as a smaller title So Many Me which will arrive in the middle of the month and be available until August 15.
Xbox 360 owners will get Gears of War 3 and Plants vs. Zombies as their free games.
Microsoft giving away Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is going to be a popular give away for users of the Xbox One, or at least for those who don’t have it yet. As one of the better Assassin’s Creed games and definitely a better performer than the buggy Assassin’s Creed: Unity, it may not be a recent release, but it does fill the role as being a perfect game for the Games with Gold program.
Xbox 360 owners will remember that their version of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag was given away April 2015.
I’m sure that Xbox 360 owners won’t feel too left out with Gears of War 3, it is one of the biggest games to come to the older console and may be a nice reminder that a Gears of War is coming to the Xbox One, so fans will have to upgrade sooner rather than later.
