Many had been wondering whether the characters from Overwatch will make their way to Heroes of the Storm. Blizzard’s upcoming free-to-play first-person shooter has a plethora of colorful and memorable characters. It would make sense that their inclusion in Heroes of the Storm would liven up the battlefield.
Either that was always the plan or Blizzard decided to side with the community’s request. The developer has confirmed that heroes from Overwatch will eventually drop as playable characters in the MOBA.
In an interview with VentureBeat, Senior Artist Phil Gonzalez confirmed the crossover by saying the following:
We’re planning on bringing Overwatch heroes into the fold, but we’re going to let Overwatch have its party, and then we’ll be like, hey, they’re over here too. We have a soft limit of, say, six months before we’ll do anything like that. But we absolutely will be visiting Overwatch and bringing Overwatch into the nexus.
There’s no information on which Overwatch characters will step over the line first, and I don’t believe Blizzard will be releasing that information any time soon.
As Gonzalez pointed out, the developer is going to wait until Overwatch has launched. About 5-6 months post-release should do it for the Heroes of the Storm fans. However, Blizzard is known for taking its time. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the company work on this for more than a year.
