If you are a fan of Destiny and are still playing the game it means you have stuck with Bungie through thick and thin no matter what some of the community members were saying about the amount of content that the game was originally shipped with.
However, the developers seem to have something else going on in their minds as they have devised a pretty weird pricing plan for the new expansion pack titled The Taken King.
In case you didn’t know, in order for you to enjoy everything that the new expansion is offering you must buy the Collector’s Edition of the game which is priced at $80!
Yes, even if you own the game already, you have to repurchase it if you want the entirety of the new content. The content that you will miss out includes three emotes specific to classes, among other things.
Luke Smith, the creative director of Destiny recently tried to explain why they were doing this, but clearly he failed at it.
For instance, while he said that “I can totally empathise with those people (the ones who will essentially have to repurchase the content),” the only explanation he could come up with was that :Collector’s Edition is a pretty cool package for people who want to pursue that stuff.”
He was then asked why was The Taken King being sold for a price the same as the base game itself. However, in his reply, he just listed the new features, which we already know about, as if he was trying to imply that $40 for just the new content is justified.
All I can do is answer that with the same thing I just gave you… We’re really comfortable with the value we’re giving to players this autumn. I believe that once we begin to share more, players will be even more excited.
He was really pushed to explain but all he said was “it’s about value. The player’s assessment of the value of the content;” and let me complete, value of something that offers less than the base game of Destiny but costs as much.
