Apparently, Sony’s own attempt at a gaming Virtual Reality headset called Project Morpheus will be released in the second quarter of 2016, and may end up costing above $400.
According to an Austrian online store, the Sony VR headset is available for preorder, and will cost €399. That’s a lot of money, but then again this is Sony, and their things tend to speak quality. Also, Sony has openly stated that Project Morpheus is kind of a platform on its own, which is perhaps why it would cost a bit more.
The price was spotted by a NeoGAF user who suggests that it might be more than just a placeholder, especially since there is the option to preorder and pay in advance for the product. Usually placeholders don’t give off such options.
Sony’s Project Morpheus VR headest is an attempt to compete with the famous Oculus Rift, which is in development by Oculus and is expected to revolutionize gaming and entertainment experience.
At €399, it’s rather expensive and out of reach for most gamers, but Sony may be forced to drop the price if the Oculus Rift (rumored to be available next year as well) offers better bang for buck.
Of course, we suggest that you take this all with a pinch of salt, and actually wait for more confirmed news instead.
Update: Apparently the Project Morpheus product has been taken off completely from that site. This is interesting because usually placeholders are not removed like this. This actually strengthens the possibility of the real price-tag and release window having been accidentally leaked.
