Well, I can’t say I am surprised at all by this, we know how popular Nintendo’s Amiibo figurine and games are around the world and it was only a matter of time before someone actually decided to rob Nintendo.
In the words of the great detective Adrian Monk, here’s what happened. In UK, numerous fans who pre-ordered Nintendo’s Splatoon and related Amiibo were left disappointed and possibly shocked, as a truck carrying copies of the game and Amiibo was robbed.
The truck was heading to retailer GAME, from Nintendo’s European warehouse.
According to a report, those who were affected by this are being offered the standard edition of Splatoon , in addition to a £10 discount.
Nintendo also confirmed the robbery in a statement:
We can confirm that the lorry transporting the Splatoon stock from Nintendo’s European warehouse to GAME UK has been stolen. Included as part of this delivery was GAME’s allocation of the Splatoon + Squid Inkling amiibo and as a result we are unable to honour pre-orders for this item in GAME.
We are working with GAME to contact those customers affected. Whilst these unfortunate circumstances were out of Nintendo UK and GAME’s control, we apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment that this has caused.
I don’t recall anything like this happening before and frankly, I don’t think these robbers were Nintendo fans who just had to get their hands on the goodies.
I think we will soon see these games and Amiibo being sold on different websites, sort of like a black market of Amiibo.
