Actor Angelina Jolie censures ‘world’s inability to protect and defend the innocent’ and criticizes the UN Security Council for being paralyzed and divided over the Syrian issue.
Special envoy for the UN on refugee issues, Angelina Jolie talked about the situation and condition of Syrian refugees who are at the verge of dying due to starvation and dehydration. Almost 4 million Syrian natives have run away to neighboring countries most of them drowning and dying in the process.
“We cannot look at Syria, and the evil that has arisen from the ashes of indecision, and think this is not the lowest point in the world’s inability to protect and defend the innocent. It is sickening to see thousands of refugees drowning on the doorstep of the world’s wealthiest continent. No one risks the lives of their children in this way except out of utter desperation.”
Jolie has made 11 visits to the areas over the past few years and says they need help. The council must come up with a strong political stance and use its powers to resolve the conflict.
Jolie also talked about the immigrants, trying to cross the Mediterranean, who drowned. Nearly 1,300 migrants have drowned over the past three weeks trying to protect their family. Jolie urged the council members to look into the matter themselves and resolve it as soon as possible because this is a matter of life and death of innocents.
