Looks like Aziz Ansari and Netflix are not just ready to break up. After two recent deals to air his standout shows, Netflix has ordered a ten episode Sitcom with Ansari as the producer and star.
Buried Alive and Live At Madison Square Garden are already available exclusively at Netflix for streaming. Ansari is already down with seven Parks and Recreation seasons.
The untitled Sitcom for Netflix stars Ansari, Eric Wareheim, H. Jon Benjamin, Lena Waithe, Kelvin Yu and Noël Wells. The new comedy will be created by Alan Yang who will also serve as the executive producer for the show along with Michael Schur and David Miner.
Details about the plot and characters are kept under the wraps for now however, according to sources the project has some elements from autobiography and it deals with the complications of dating.
So one thing is certain, Netflix despite all the issues regarding piracy has set goals about the kind of shows they want to be associated with. First the Fuller House spinoff and now an Aziz Ansari sitcom, clearly besides the superhero genre (namely Daredevil and the four upcoming parts), they want comedy on their radar.
Aziz Ansari and H. Jon Benjamin together is a treat for comedy fans. I must say if not entirely, you must be intrigued by the news in some way or the other. For now this is all we know, we will keep you updated.
