Konami has revealed that Metal Gear Online will feature support for up to sixteen players on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. On the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 however, the service will drop its count to support just twelve players.
Posting on its official Japanese Metal Gear Solid website, publisher Konami promised that Metal Gear Online will be included with all copies of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain when it releases later this year on September 1 (September 15 for PC).
Metal Gear Online will essentially serve as the online multiplayer mode for the new game in the series. The tactical mode will feature two teams of players with access to a class system, enabling them to utilize different abilities as they sneak their way around the battlefield. Many of Metal Gear’s original characters, including Ocelot and Venom Snake, will also make an appearance in this mode as well.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain may have been delayed by two weeks on the PC, but it will be bringing digital goodies through Steam with the “Day 1 Edition” DLC at launch. It will contain the following:
- Adam-ska Special Handgun
- Personal Ballistic Shield (Silver)
- Cardboard Box (Wetland)
- Fatigues (Blue Urban Snake Costume)
- METAL GEAR ONLINE XP BOOST
