Elias Toufexis, the lead actor who plays the role of Adam Jensen in the Deus Ex series, has expressed disappointment over his performance in the previous game.
The actor will be reprising his position in the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided installment, where he is looking to make up for what he believes to be a performance that is “like nails on a chalkboard.”
Speaking with Twinfinite, the actor said that it took him a few months to “find my stride” with Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. With the new installment however, Toufexis is feeling better prepared.
Technically, I approached it a little differently in the sense that I know who Jensen is now. On Human Revolution it took me a few months of work to find my stride with him. (Something that I spot in DXHR gameplay. Parts of my performance are like nails on a chalkboard to me.) This time around I knew exactly where to begin and where to take him. Also, though I did a little bit last time, I fully performance capture and voice Adam. It’s much more freeing for an actor to not be locked in a sound booth for major scenes, but to actually be playing them like a film.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was announced earlier this month by Square Enix. The publisher and developer Eidos Montreal are working hard to push the boundaries with the new chapter which begins two years after the events of the last game. Protagonist Adam Jensen is now working for Interpol to hunt down augmented terrorists in a world that has come to despise cybernetically enhanced humans.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A release date has not been revealed.
