Well, I can’t say that I am surprised to hear this at all, GTA V now holds the record for most concurrent users on Steam (Valve games are excluded ofcourse). Impressive? We never expected anything less did we?
The game originally came out back in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since then, PC fans requested Rockstar for a version on their platform, but they were kept waiting. Later on, GTA V made it to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Once again, PC fans were left-out.
On top of that, PC version of the game was hit with a couple of delays, which made matters worse for those waiting to get their hands on the superior build.
Finally, Grand Theft Auto V was released by Rockstar on PC via Steam (and other platforms) just a couple of days ago. So obviously, fans who were already hungry for some GTA action jumped into the game as soon as it went live.
According to stats, 300,000 players simultaneously visited Los Santos in GTA V on Steam. Meaning it is now the most played non-Valve game on the platform. It wouldn’t be surprising if player count keeps rising. Previously, the record belonged to Skyrim, which saw 280,000 concurrent users.
On the other hand, Dota 2 is still the most played game overall with over 777,000 users.
This is GTA V’s third release in the market and the reception it has received is overwhelming. Grand Theft Auto V has broken sales record on almost every platform it came out on, and it has become the biggest money maker for Rockstar and Take-Two.
According to Steam Spy, on Valve’s platform alone GTA V has sold one million copies since release. One can only imagine where that number goes when you include sales from other storefronts.
I guess Rockstar will share some news regarding sales in the near future. They have every right to brag about it don’t you think?
