EA has decided to stop supporting several of its free-to-play titles on the PC, and these will be shut down in approximately ninety days.
According to the announcement made by executive vice president of EA Studios Patrick Söderlund, the publishing giant will be taking down Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield Play 4 Free, Need for Speed World, and FIFA World. Expect them all to be offline by mid-July.
“Recently, we’ve been looking closely at the types of PC free-to-play experiences that players are engaging with across the world,” he said. “For instance, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a game that continues to have a very enthusiastic and growing player community, and we have plans to introduce more new story-driven game updates to our Star Wars: The Old Republic players this year.”
I’m not sure how much populated the above mentioned titles are currently, but seeing that EA has decided to vanquish its support for them, it must be pretty low. Still, it’s good news for Star Wars: The Old Republic that there is still new story-driven content being planned for this year.
“While we say farewell to these free-to-play titles in the next few months, we are always exploring new concepts and ways to bring great games to more players around the world,” said Söderlund to conclude the announcement.
