Ming-Na Wen, who plays the character of Melinda May nicknamed ‘The Cavalry’ in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wondered for two entire years about the origin of her nickname. Finally she has an answer!
In Tuesday’s episode, this huge mystery was solved. The truth being that neither Wen nor the character Melinda May knew about the origin. The episode named ‘Melinda’ goes into a flashback, where it takes the character to Bahrain. The actress disclosed that after she read the script she was shocked.
I had had hints about the potential for what she could have done, but [the producers] never went into details and they couldn’t confirm whether that was the direction they were going to take it. So when I did finally read it, it was extremely devastating. To have learned what she had to do, for the good of the many… I can understand why it would traumatize her so much and cause her to retreat.
There was a time in the past when Melinda was happy; she was in love with Andrew (Blair Underwood) and had the perfect job. In short she was living a good life. Wen discovered Melinda in so many different ways and stages and she is thankful to the entire team for giving her this opportunity.
“It’s a huge emotional reveal. For Skye, she thought this person was dead and now she is back. Jiayang (Dichen Lachman) is like her and shares a gifted ability. There will definitely be a natural attraction there,” said Jeffrey Bell talking about Skye and her relationship with her mother.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on ABC every Tuesday.
