It all started with a teaser site that was put up by Square Enix. It had its fair shares of tantalizations but there were certain things that suggested that Star Ocean 5 was coming.
For instance, at a time the word STAR had appeared on the website – although they later added a “T” to it in the end making it read “Start.” Regardless of all that, the artwork of the planets was too similar to what we would expect from Star Ocean to suggest anything else.
As it turns out, the game really was the next iteration in the series, and it just got officially revealed by the developers as Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness through the latest edition of Famitsu, the Japanese magazine (thanks, Gematsu)
According to the initial details, the game is set at Feycreed a planet that is uncivilized and 6000 light years away from our Earth. The game will have seamless and real-time events and battles.
Your battle style will change depending on how far the enemy is and there will be combos that you will be able to trigger with consecutive button pushes.
So far, three characters have been revealed:
- Fedel Camus (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) – The protagonist. He specializes at fencing, and protects the order of his village.
- Miki Sorvesta (voiced by Nao Toyama) – The heroine. She is the protagonist’s childhood friend, and loves him like an older brother.
- Lilia (voice actor unknown) – A girl who lost both her memories and emotions.
Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness is being developed for PlayStatino 3 and PlayStation 4 by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix. Akira “Akiman” Yasuda is the character designer, Shuichi Kobayashi the producer, Hiroshi Ogawa the director and Yoshiharu Gotanda is the lead programmer.
