What happens when you trust someone with confidential (for the time being) data that the whole world is after, and you make the wrong choice of people to trust with it? Well, for starters, the first four Game of Thrones Season 5 episodes get leaked online!
Yes, that really happened guys, couple of hours ago a group of reviewers approved by HBO itself went down the wrong road somehow and the result was what could be regarded as the biggest leak not only for GOT but TV worldwide.
No specifics were available online at first, except the fact that the first four episodes had magically popped up on torrent sites, but now HBO has provided a statement confirming what they are calling a “breach” and revealing that they are currently investigating the issue. Here’s the official statement provided by the channel:
Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of Game of Thrones originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them. We’re actively assessing how this breach occurred.
The episodes, titled The Wars to Come, The House of Black and White, High Sparrow and The Sons of the Harpy, have been downloaded millions of times already – as early as Sunday morning the downloads were to the tunes of 550,000!
Ironically, this comes at the tail of two interesting news regarding the season. Firstly, it was recently revealed that GOT was the most pirated season with around 7 million downloads in the last three months (up 45 percent from last year) and secondly, HBO was trying to curb piracy by releasing the Game of Thrones Season 5 simultaneously in 170 countries.
So, how do you plan to avoid those spoilers now, fans of Westeros?
