It has been around 16 years since Age of Empires 2 was originally released. Ever since then, there have been expansions that have kept the game alive alongside the obvious reason that people still love to play it.
However, it appears that Microsoft Studios is not done with it yet. Ryan Chaply, the program manager for the game at Microsoft has recently detailed what the future has in store for the game.
What you are looking at this year is a brand new Age of Empires 2 expansion!
What’s more, the same team that worked on the Forgotten Empires expansion is going to be developing it. Microsoft Studios has not shared much about it yet, but assured that you can expect developer blogs in the future that will explain it all to you:
We’ll be detailing the expansion throughout the year in developer blogs directly from the team – including one soon revealing the first new civilization. As with the Forgotten Expansion, you can anticipate a lot packed in there, including new civs, campaigns, game modes, units, and more. If your focus is more on the original AOEII experience, the new content development means you can look forward to additional support and features that benefit every owner.
Chaply also shared a screenshot of a work in progress unit that is going to be a part of the expansion: new Camel Archer units. Here’s the image he shared:
Other than that a new patch titled update 3.9 has been released to the game which will make numerous visual as well as under the hood changes. Go here to check out what this new update is going to change in Age of Empires 2.
