If you were enraged about the loss of online save files after 2K Sports shut down the servers recently, this is them trying to make up for it:
The NBA 2K14 servers have been restored for another nine months.
What actually happened was that when the developers took down the servers they also removed all career mode based game saves regardless of the fact that they were being played offline.
This resulted in a lot of angry remarks from fans of the series and eventually 2k Sports had to do something. Here’s the official statement given by a representative that confirms the added life to NBA 2K14 servers:
2K has restored the NBA 2K14 servers and all online services. Beginning today, we are extending the support of all NBA 2K servers from 18 to 27 months following each release, giving our players more time to experience and enjoy the highest rated NBA simulation video game franchise. The opinions of our community continue to have a positive impact on our business decisions as we strive to create the best possible experience for all of our fans.
The backstory is that the offline mode progression and virtual economy of the game had been tied to the online support which caused an alarm when the server shut downs were announced.
While 2K had assured that they will convert the save files to offline ones at the time of the server take down, nothing like that happened.
It is good that the NBA 2K14 servers support has been extended but comparatively, it is still a lot shorter than what similar games usually offer. Take a look at the Madden NFL 12 and FIFA 12 servers which are still live despite being much older games.
