Mortal Kombat X is now available for free on mobile devices and can be downloaded from the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced. Android users will have to wait a bit and the game will arrive on Google Play soon.
Developed by NetherRealm Studios, the mobile edition blends raw fighting with card collection in a new way to experience the Mortal Kombat franchise. Progression will let you collect gear that in turn can be used to upgrade your fighters, as well as unlock new Fatality moves.
“NetherRealm perfected the art of mobile fighting games with Injustice: Gods Among Us, which has been downloaded more than 43 million times since it launched in April of 2013, and with WWE Immortals, which has more than eight million downloads since January 2015,” said Greg Ballard, senior vice president, Mobile, Social and Emerging Platforms, WBIE. “The team has outdone themselves with its latest offering, creating an authentic Mortal Kombat mobile experience from the ground up, bringing players all the signature, over-the-top fighting gameplay mechanics that are hallmarks of the franchise and delivering on WBIE’s quality games-as-a-service promise.”
You can expect daily events for now, with an additional Challenge Mode set to arrive soon. The new Allies feature will allow players to “borrow” a friend’s character to aid them as a fourth fighter in their battles. According to the publisher, mobile players will also be able to unlock content for the console and PC versions, and vice versa.
Mortal Kombat X will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 14. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions have been delayed to a later summer date.
