What exactly do shows do on their anniversaries? Release an anniversary special or perhaps a giveaway on social networking sites. ABC’s General Hospital will air two live episodes on the show’s 52nd anniversary, which is impressive in today’s world of recording pre-hand.
The longest running daytime drama will air two of its episodes on May 15 and 18 live from Los Angeles, reports People Magazine.
General hospital was nominated for 28 categories in the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards and it has won 11 Emmys as daytime’s best drama. Although the show is not known for bringing in a lot of changes but perhaps ABC has decided to compete NBC as live musicals are giving them high ratings.
Frank Valentini, executive producer and writer General Hospital says that they are taking a huge risk. The extra work is tiresome, but he is proud of his team for their dedication.
“Taking such an iconic show as General Hospital live for two days is both exhilarating and risky. I am enormously proud of our cast, crew and staff for all their tireless dedication and hard work that will be leading up to this daytime television event. It’s live television and absolutely anything can happen, but that is what’s fun about this and we’re absolutely up to the challenge.”
So I guess the Peter Pan and The Sound of Music days are coming back, live shows sound interesting and promising. But there is always that huge chance of a glitch. I hope it doesn’t happen though.
