Pillars of Eternity Expansion is Already Being Made: Obsidian

By   /   Mar 18, 2015

Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian Entertainment’s fantasy RPG is edging closer to a release date now. With that, the developers decided to hold an AMA session over at Reddit to talk about the game and answer queries that fans might have had in their minds.

Josh Sawyer the Project Lead, Eric Fenstermaker the Lead Narrative Designer and Adam Brennecke the Executive Producer and Lead Programmer for the game sat together for the session.

In one of the answers, they also revealed that a Pillars of Eternity expansion was already in the works; and that it was going to be the same size as Baldur’s Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast.

While they were asked to discuss the expansion related business model that they were going to follow for the game in the future, Brennecke instead talked about the one expansion that they are working on at the moment – looks like he really had to tell.

We are looking at doing an expansion that’s about the same size (area wise) of Tales of the Sword Coast. I won’t reveal much about it since it’s early in development, but we’ve already have a small team working on areas and environments while the rest of the team focus on shipping the game. We will announcing more things about it over the next few months.

Just so you know, Pillars of Eternity is being regarded as a spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate, and Tales of the Sword Coast was the first expansion of the latter.

The game is being developed for Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux; it will be released on all four of the platforms on March 26, 2015.
