Guild Wars 2: New Desert Borderlands Map Previewed

ArenaNet took center stage at this year’s EGX Rezzed to showcase the first gameplay footage of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, the game’s new expansion pack.

The video also gives us a glimpse at the new borderlands map for the World vs World PVP mode, and which will be added with the expansion pack later this year. That of course will not be the only inclusion, and Heart of Thorns will be brimming with new content.

The new desert themed map will feature “terrain integrated forts, elemental keeps, looming towers, a huge map wide Oasis event and a new siege weapon to top it all off.”

According to the developer, while the maps will be replacing the current Alpine borderlands, the older ones will in some way be reintroduced later down the line.

This time around the forts will utilize the terrain to give better defenses. The air elemental keeps will grant access to jump pads around the map, the fire keep will offer fire hound eggs deep underground for players to turn themselves into fire hounds, and finally the earth keep will provide a team with walls for restricting enemy movement.

The new siege weapon, Shield Generator, will have the ability to knock enemies back, block a huge area from the enemy and shoot projectiles that deflect other Shield Generator abilities.

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is still without a release date but is confirmed for 2015.
