Well, it seems that executive producer of Mortal Kombat X, Shaun Himmerick was either in the dark or he totally confused the latest iteration in the Mortal Kombat series with something else.
After previously stating that the game will not require PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold saying that “PS Plus is not needed for any feature of MKX.”
He was that clear about it, and he even sad the same about the requirement of an Xbox Live Gold membership.
Now, all of a sudden he clarified that those answers were not even about the need for the subscriptions. Instead he says he meant there would be no exclusive Mortal Kombat X content for PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold – yeah right.
Here’s his exact response:
I just meant no exclusive content for PSN plus. That was original question. Mistype. Console rules all apply.
Oh and the replies he got on this are also worth reading.
Anyhow, the bottom line is that you don’t need to be happy about what we reported earlier; you are going to need the subscriptions (or memberships in the case of Xbox) in order to be able to play the online multiplayer of the game.
I was actually surprised to find out that they were confirming something like this is the first place, and the need for PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold wouldn’t have shocked anyone. It is the fact that everything was miscommunicated and then related to something that it had nothing to do with.
Mortal Kombat X is being developed for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. It is slated for a worldwide release on April 14, 2015.
