Nintendo has confirmed that it will be releasing a Gold Edition Super Mario amiibo figurine exclusively at US Walmart stores next month.
The special figurine will retail for $12.96 on March 20, the same day on which Mario Party 10 releases. It’s already out of stock online, after appearing on the retailer’s website for a few hours.
One has to wonder when Nintendo will learn that it’s better to offer items in large numbers when the demand is known to be high. This would also stop its spokespersons from singing the same old song of demand being too high and of trying better next time.
This is the third Mario amiibo. The previous two featured the original ‘fireball’ Mario from the Super Smash Bros. series, and a new ‘wave’ Mario from the Super Mario series which will also be available on March 20, for a limited time bundled only with Mario Party 10.
The Golden Edition Super Mario amiibo isn’t the only figurine on Nintendo’s plate.
The company will also be releasing others, including Bowser, Luigi, Peach, Toad and Yoshi. All six characters (including Mario) will be playable in Mario Party 10. Toad’s figurine will also unlock a hidden “pixel Toad” in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on Wii U.
