Guardian! It’s time to take a break from your routine alien battles across earth and Down Below. Earlier, Bungie announced via twitter that Destiny servers will be taken offline for maintenance.
The maintenance is scheduled for today at 10AM Pacific till Noon:
Destiny and http://t.co/nxcJOVXAv6 are being taken offline for maintenance on Tuesday, February 24th, from 10AM Pacific to Noon.

As soon as the tweet was posted it was presumed that it may be related to patch 1.1.1. However, Bungie later revealed that although patch 1.1.1 will be live this month, the said maintenance won’t make gameplay changes from patch 1.1.1. Instead, Bungie will be fixing some server side issues but nothing more is known at the moment.
As for patch 1.1.1, whenever it comes out it will bring mandatory matchmaking for Weekly Heroic Strikes as revealed by Design Lead M.E. Chung. Since, matchmaking will be mandatory players will no longer have an option to go in solo.
On the other hand, Chung has the following to say about matchmaking in raids:
..we are keenly aware of the issue. We think good Raid sessions rely on groups of communicative players who are invested in each other, but we know that it’s challenging for many players to find groups for Raids and Nightfall today. We are thinking hard about how we can help make that an easier experience in future releases.
Patch 1.1.1 will also come with balance fixes and other tweaks. Bungie is yet to announce a release date for this patch but we can expect it to be rolled out in coming days. Visit the official blog for more details about the patch.
