Rise of the Tomb Raider will apparently feature some sort of “supernatural elements,” Crystal Dynamics has revealed.
Speaking with GameInformer, Game Director Brian Horton touched upon a number of new details about the game. The mention of supernatural elements certainly has piqued are curiosity. Unfortunately, further clarification was not given.
Horton further said that the wildlife featured in the game will be more realistic, and that will appear at different times depending on the game’s dynamic day/night cycle and its adaptive weather system.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will allow players to upgrade their weapons, and this time there will be a variety of bows compared to the singular offering in the previous game.
Traversal will once again be a major part of the new installment, and according to Horton, players will have an improved way to climb mountains and other difficult terrain.
The setting of Siberia means a brand new snow technology that will have animals leave behind unique footprints that will fill over time. Lara Croft will be able to dig snow trenches for shelter and cover. Avalanches and snow storms will be there to add to the overall dangers of the region.
That said, not everything will be covered in snow. The Oasis is an area outside Siberia that “isn’t completely permafrost.” It will have different weather that will provide more flavor to the whole game.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive release for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 this year. More platforms will be revealed later and which will probably include the PlayStation 4 and PC.
