Back in 2004, Frontier Developments released Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. Since then, they haven’t worked on a self published roller coaster simulation franchise.
Currently they are working on Scream Ride for Microsoft but it seems that wasn’t enough for the developers. They want to use their expertise to do something more with this genre and they want to do it on their own.
The company has announced Coaster Park Tycoon which seems to be the successor to the Roller Coaster Tycoon series.
The news was announced in the post which stated:
“Coaster Park games appeal to a great many people, as proven by RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. It is a field for which Frontier has unparalleled expertise and immense passion, and one to which we have long wanted to make a ‘no-holds-barred’ return. We want Coaster Park Tycoon to be another major step forward for the simulation genre, and sit alongside Elite: Dangerous as a second major self-published franchise.”
The game will attempt to “raise that benchmark for ‘Tycoon’ gameplay” by introducing more creative and accessible features to offer a “sophisticated simulation” experience.
The post further shared Frontier’s plans for the game’s release. Coaster Park Tycoon will come out sometime in 2016 for PC. For the time being, there is no mention of any console version of the game.
