Dragon Age: Inquisition has received a special recognition award by GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) for its portrayal of “complex and unique LGBT characters.”
The 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards featured a long list of categories that currently has no specific mention for video games. However, the panel still singled out Dragon Age: Inquisition for its representation of LGBT characters that are a major part of the game.
The organization wrote on its website:
Electronic Arts and BioWare’s videogame Dragon Age: Inquisition received a Special Recognition award for the many complex and unique LGBT characters prominently integrated throughout the game. GLAAD’s Special Recognition awards are typically given to outstanding media projects for which there is not a competitive category.
Dragon Age: Inquisition was released last year and was chosen as the best game of the year by every major publisher. Its lead writer David Gaider had growing fears about the game’s portrayal of “fully gay” characters, a first in the series and in BioWare’s history. However, that had little effect on the popularity of the game which was warmly received.
The game is currently available for purchase on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
