2K and Firaxis Games have announced a new interstellar strategy game dubbed Sid Meier’s Starships – yes, Sid Meier is actually involved in this one.
Gamestop reports that the game will let players control a fleet of starships as they embark upon a journey through galaxies, complete missions, defend planets and their inhabitants, and eventually form a planetary federation. Additionally, players will compete against other players in turn-based combat, increase their federation’s power, and control an array of customizable ships.
Speaking of Starships, Sid Meier stated that he was also intrigued by the idea of what lies of Civilization: Beyond Earth:
When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth,” Meier said. “What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?
My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.
2K Games has also teased that the game might feature some sort of cross-connectivity between Civilization: Beyond Earth and Starships, but nothing is certain at the moment. You can also check some screenshots and announcement trailer provided above!
Sid Meier’s Starships is scheduled to release sometime in early 2015 across PC, Mac, and iPad. As for a possible Android release, no information is available as of this instant.
