After suffering from a delay, The Order: 1886 will finally be released for PlayStation 4 next month. Just ahead of its release, Ready at Dawn has revealed that they want The Order to be turned into a full-fledged franchise.
Speaking to Polygon, creative director Ru Weerasuriya stated that there are a lot of stories that they want to tell in the universe that they have created, and there certainly will be more than one The Order: 1886 games.
We have other games in mind, other things that could be done. The reality is that we never build a world with the mind set of ‘there is one story and that is that.’ We build a world purely for the purpose of making more than one game.
It takes too much work for this to be for a single title.
He continued on to say that the team took a chance with the new Ready at Dawn Engine 4.0 because there weren’t any physics engine available that were capable of doing what the developers wanted.
In another statement, Ru touched on the subject of the large universe that they have created for The Order: 1886, saying that this world will allow them to bring more stories in the years to come.
This is how we always start, by building a world that is immense enough that a team of 100 something developers can believe in it, can feel like they can work in it for years to come. In order to do that we have to pour so much energy not into the story, the story came afterwards, but the lore.
All of that had to exist first and foremost.
PS4 users will be able to get their hands on The Order: 1886 starting February 20, 2015.
