Since January 9, 2015 fans of SMITE who are into competitive gaming have been following the biggest event in the game’s world.
A total of eight teams from five different regions of the world have been battling each other for the title of the SMITE world champions as well as a massive prize.
Yesterday, the grand finale was held between Cognitive Prime and Titan and former went home with over $1.3 million!
The gigantic prize pool might make you wonder if you are not a regular player of SMITE or a regular member of eSports community.
The SMITE World Championship has an official page linked with the Hi Rez Studios’ official website where they have detailed how the prize money is pooled up:
The prize pool for the SMITE World Championship keeps growing and you can contribute to it by joining in the Odyssey and get exclusive in-game items. Each Odyssey item purchased will contribute towards the prize pool for the Tournament and will also earn you exclusive rewards! These rewards will only be available during the Odyssey event. To date the Odyssey has raised over $2 million and counting making the SWC the 3rd largest prize pool in history!
The total prize money was actually to the tunes of $2.6 million out of which half was awarded to the winner, $1,306,130 to be exact. The runner ups got 20 percent i.e. $522,452 while the second runner ups went home with $391,839 which equates to 15% of the total prize pool.
