The free-to-play MOBA Smite is scheduled to make a public appearance on Xbox One in January 2015, Hi-Rez Studios announced earlier today.
The Xbox One port of the game will be available to play in the upcoming Smite World Championship at the Cobb Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia from Jan. 9 to Jan. 11 next year. A total of eight pro-teams from five regions will be competing for $1.7 million prize pool where the attendees will also be able to see and play Smite running on Xbox One.
Speaking of the game, Hi-Rez Studios Chief Operating Officer Todd Harris said that the developer always viewed console as a fairly obvious opportunity and Microsoft saw huge potential for Smite on Xbox One:
MOBA is the world’s most popular game genre, but it hasn’t been available on any next-gen console until Smite. Console was a fairly obvious opportunity, and Microsoft also saw the huge potential for a free-to-play MOBA on Xbox One.
Harris also stated that Smite on Xbox One will have its own competitive tournaments and sees it as one of the top eSports for Xbox One. For more details on Smite World Championship, check Hi-Rez Studios website.
Smite is scheduled to launch on Xbox One in March 2015 with a limited closed beta to take place sometime before the launch.
