The 2014 Capcom Cup tournament ended with producer Yoshinori Ono taking the stage to reveal Charlie Nash for Street Fighter V.
Having originally appeared in Street Fighter Alpha, Charlie will be making a big return with Capcom’s latest Street Fighter installment and will so in a new updated image.
Ono, dressed just like Charlie, then mentioned how each character in Street Fighter V will be unique in more ways than ever before. He hinted about character-specific techniques that will set them all apart. On that note, it’s highly speculated that Capcom will be bringing the Parry system back. Though we still haven’t received any official confirmation.
As part of Capcom’s new partnership with Sony, the developer will be bringing Capcom Pro Tour and Capcom Cup next year as well but with a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000.
“We’ve been hard at work at Street Fighter 5, and we promise this product will be the one that brings fighting games into the next era,” he said. “This will be a huge step for us and our community.”
This year’s Capcom Cup tournament, held in San Francisco, saw to sixteen of the world’s best Street Fighter players go toe to toe against each other for over $36,000 and of course, the bragging rights of being called the champion.
Street Fighter V is going to release next year exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and PC and will feature cross-platform play.
