Sony has revealed that 80 percent of UK’s allocated 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 consoles will be sold online.
Speaking with Eurogamer, PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara said that these will be available to purchase by next Monday. An 80 percent allocation suggests that users will have a chance to bag on from around 800 units.
The Limited Edition 20th Anniversary console went on sale in the UK this morning. Currently only 94 units are available at a heavily discounted price in a pop-up PlayStation shop in London’s Bethnal Green. It wouldn’t be a surprise if that stock is already wiped clean.
From tomorrow to Friday, an additional 100 units will be sold in the store at full retail price of £399.99.
“The volume is a close match with the original production run on PlayStation, so it’s got a nice heritage story,” said Gara. “They’re very rare and they’re very special. If you put it into mass production you dilute that. So right now, that’s it. I’m not aware of any plans to change that.”
The 20th Anniversary Edition PlayStation 4 will be limited to just 12,300 units worldwide. Sony has no plans to make more when the stock runs dry.
This is the first ‘custom’ edition that has caught my eye. The previous custom iterations were pretty mundane and between those and the standard version, I’d choose the standard one.
