A couple of videos have surfaced online that give us some off-cam footage of Overwatch, as well some extra information about the game through a a developer Q&A session hosted at BlizzCon 2014.
The video is shared by Maxim Korea and gives us a glimpse of the fast paced multiplayer faction Blizzard’s new IP will be offering. You can also check out some of the characters in action which we so far have only seen in the game’s cinematic trailer that accompanied its announcement.
The Q&A video sees the developers discussing about the female characters in the game and the risks they have to consider when making a new IP. Overwatch is an adaptation of the PvP section of the developer’s scrapped Project Titan which went down thedrain because it seemingly was missing the ‘fun’ factor.
There’s currently no release date for Overwatch but Blizzard will be looking to release it in fall of next year. The game takes on a humorous fps approach with colorful characters, much like Team Fortress 2. An open beta phase is set to go live in early 2015.
At this point, I’m assuming that with the success of Hearthstone, Blizzard will be looking to release it as a free-to-play game with micro-transactions.
