We have been playing Call of Duty titles since over a decade now; have you ever wondered how much moolah has Activision raked in through the franchise so far? Let’s just say that if one person had all that money, he would be the world’s 125th richest man!
The makers of the series have announced that it is now a $10 billion franchise!
Bobby Kotick the chief executive officer of Activision Blizzard said today that their franchise had outdone Hunger Games, Transformers, Iron Man and Avengers combined:
Since Activision created the Call of Duty franchise in 2003, franchise revenues have exceeded $10 billion in sales worldwide, far exceeding box office receipts for such household movie franchises as Hunger Games, Transformers, Iron Man and Avengers, combined. Advanced Warfare is the biggest entertainment launch of 2014 in terms of revenue, surpassing all movie, music and book launches this year.
Moving on, Eric Hirshberg the CEO of Activision Publishing said that they believe Advanced Warfare is going to become the year’s most successful game. Also, they say that the game been history’s biggest digital launch according to figures shared by Xbox Live, PSN and their own estimates.
Well, these are really huge claims and if nothing else, it makes me sure of one thing even more; the Call of Duty franchise is here to stay.
Since they have not announced anything on this front so far, I think it is highly unlikely that Advanced Warfare has outdone Black Ops 2 as of this moment, it still is a great step up from Ghosts for them.
Let’s see if they will release any specific figures regarding the game in the future.
