The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to feature a total of sixteen downloadable content packs, CD Projekt RED has announced. The studio pretty much surprised everyone then by revealing that all of that will be made available to players for free.
There’s no kind of restriction on access. Players will receive the DLC packs with disregard to what version they own. The studio has made it clear that even those who choose to purchase the game after the release date will also be eligible for the packs.
“With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently,” began co-founder and joint CEO Marcin Iwinski in an open letter addressed to the community. “Cutting to the chase, everyone who buys Wild Hunt will receive 16 specially prepared DLCs absolutely for free, regardless of platform. You don’t have to pre-order, you don’t have to buy any special edition to get them — if you own a copy of Wild Hunt, they’re yours. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game.”
A small FAQ released via a press release explained further that the studio plans to release one DLC bundle each week, following the release of the game. Each bundle will include two DLC packs and at the moment only the first two bundles have been revealed.
The first DLC bundle will release on February 25, the second day of release, while the second bundle will be released a week after that on March 4. That will be followed by a bundle a piece on March 11, March 18 and so on.
The first bundle will contain the Temerian Armor Set and a Beard and Hairstyle Set for Geralt. The second bundle will contain an additional quest and an alternative look for one of the game’s main characters — Yennefer of Vengerberg.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled for release on February 24, 2015 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
