Always looking for ways to enhance its franchise, publisher Deep Silver has partnered with Dark Horse Digital for a triple run of Dead Island comics. Its first issue is out now and is free to download.
Comics can be read either on the Dark Horse site or downloaded in their handy app, which is equally free to use. It’s available for both iOS and Android.
Dead Island’s first run is 18 pages long and has some known art for comic fans. Mike Hawthorne, who previously worked on the Deadpool series, will provide the pencils for this issue, which shows in the panels.
Writing will be provided by Alex de Campi, who also handled the Grindhouse comics. Additionally, the first episode’s cover channels some Grindhouse magic via Stephanie Hans, who splits a head open like a juicy coconut.
Dead Island’s comic will bridge the gap between the two upcoming games in the franchise. Events happen between Escape Dead Island and Dead Island 2.
The former will release this November for the old line of consoles, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, as well as PC. For Dead Island 2, we’ll need to wait until 2015 for it to come out on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Dark Horse Digital is known for their welcoming love of games. They’ve done complementary runs like this before for the likes of Dragon Age, Dungeon Siege and even Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.
The other episodes of the Dead Island comics are expected soon. You’re likely to see them near Escape Dead Island’s release.
