Just a few months ago, Sony announced the total PS4 units sold since its release last year. The figure was revealed to be 10 million consoles which is quite an impressive achievement.
Since then Sony’s PlayStation 4 has sold 3.3 million. These figures were shared in Sony’s financials for fiscal quarter between July 1, 2014 and September 30, 2014.
Company’s game division is blooming and made 200 million dollars in operating revenue.
However, Sony’s overall performance remained bleak and they posted an operating loss of $785 million which resulted in net loss of $ 1.2 billion.
Still, Sony’s new console maintains its dominance in the market and after selling 3.3 million units in this quarter, it brought the number up to 13.5 million lifetime sales.
Compered to the same period last year, hardware sales went up 7.2%.
Although PS3 hardware and software sales went down, Sony saw an increase in network service revenue due to PS4’s strong performance.
“Sales increased 83.2% year-on-year (a 74% increase on a constant currency basis) to 309.5 billion yen (2,839 million U.S. dollars). This significant increase was primarily due to the contribution from PS4 hardware sales, a significant increase in network services revenue related to the introduction of the PS4 and the contribution from PS4 software sales…”
So although the other divisions of company aren’t doing that good, gaming division is flourishing well and I hope that it stays that way.
