Dark Souls has received a shiny batch of Steam achievements and looks to be finally parting ways with Games for Windows Live.
From Software has been pretty vocal in the past about moving to Steamworks in an effort to find an alternative to Games for Windows Live. While Dark Souls still hasn’t completely let go of the controversial Microsoft service, you can expect it to completely shift over in the coming days.
Those with a copy of Dark Souls installed on Steam can take a look at the achievements for themselves.
Players have forever complained about connectivity issues through Games for Windows Live. Dark Souls 2 on the other hand opted for Steamworks and its multiplayer was said to be considerably better than the first installment.
One thing to note though. It has happened in the past that titles (the Batman: Arkham games) shifting from GFWL to Steamworks have their save files corrupted. A considerable annoyance and it would be better for players to make backup copies of their save files with DSFix.
Note though that it’s not always guaranteed that you’ll be able to convert the backups back when the time comes. However, it’s better than having no options.
