Publisher Sega has opened up preorders for Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault. Unlike previous installments, which were meant more as standalone expansion, this is a new chapter in the series that continues the World War II story.
As the name states, the game takes place in the Belgian area and revolves around the Battle of the Bulge, located in between hillsides and forest. As with previous chapters, there’s an emphasis on the wintery environment that encases maps in snow and ice.
The Ardennes offensive was one where the historical Blitzkrieg term from the German side was seen at its highest. Through an element of surprise, forces moved forward and quickly conquered the land.
Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault is a singleplayer campaign and will give players control of the US forces fighting back against the German advancement. There will be 16 new scenarios, with some of them being inspired by the real battles that took place.
Players will be able to deploy three different companies: Airborne, Mechanized Infantry and Support. Each faction has access to three different officers, which further customize gameplay.
A troop progression system rewards veterancy, while there’s also ways to lose out on a company for good. You’ll be able to take on missions in a non-linear fashion.
Preorders for Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault will be granted an exclusive fourth faction, the Fox Company Rangers. They come with an additional elite unit and their own abilities.
Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault costs €39.99, which is considerably more than the previous installments, which offered other army nationalities.
