It has been around three years since Minecraft mobile version was released to Android and iOS. However Windows Phones had been kept aloof of that love all along. That is about to change now, the developers have finally revealed that Minecraft Pocked Edition is in the works for Windows Phone!
Keeping it as simple as possible, Jens Bergensten the lead developer of Minecraft at Mojang Studios decided that it was time Minecraft Pocket Edition Windows Phone version was made official. So he took to his official Twitter profile with the news:
Yes, Minecraft: Pocket Edition *is* coming to the Windows Phone! The port runs already, but there’s still much to do before any release.
Well, it’s not like the news would be a surprise for the series fans. Microsoft recently purchased the development studio responsible for the billion dollar franchise for a hefty sum of $2.5 billion. The least they would want out of Mojang was a Windows Phone version, don’t you think?
All this is pretty good, but Bergensten did say that while the port is already working they have a lot of work to do before a final product can be launched. I am sure that is why we don’t have a release date yet.
Also, the news comes at the tail of the release date announcement for Minecraft PS Vita version.
Oh and this makes it the 14th platform on which the game is being released after Windows, OS X, Linux, Java Platform, Java Applet, Android, iOS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Raspberry Pi, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita.
So tell me, how popular do you think this Minecraft Pocket Edition would be considering how the number of Minecraft fans owning a Windows Phone is going to be far less than fans who own Android and iPhone.
