An earlier listing for the GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U had everyone excited over the prospect of the peripheral allowing players to play any software compatible with Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro, or Wii U Pro Controller by simply plugging in the GameCube controller.
Nintendo however has confirmed now that the listing was made in error. The only game that will work with the adapter is Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
While Smash Bros. fans were pretty excited in knowing they could use their favorite GameCube controllers again, their disappointment in knowing the option sticks to just the single game is understandable.
The GameCube Controller adapter will be available as part of a special bundle that will include a copy of Super Smash Bros. and an extra GameCube controller for $99.99. The adapter alone will cost $19.99.
The community has been bombing Nintendo with requests to add GameCube controller functionality to more games in the future, including both past and upcoming. The company however has not issued any public statement about it and we can only hope that Nintendo is considering it.
Super Smash Bros. is set to launch on Wii U on November 21.
