A new update to the Battle.net launcher has added new icons and background for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, suggesting perhaps that we’ll be soon seeing the old strategy title hit modern PCs.
It was last year that Blizzard announced plans to overhaul the game for modern systems. It’s not that you can’t play the game on your new systems. Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne is perfectly capable of running on any system. The issue comes with its outdated visuals and the low resolution options.
Blizzard’s notion of bringing the game on to modern systems perhaps means support for higher resolutions and if we’re very lucky, we’ll see the game totally overhauled in Blizzard’s new engine. That means new textures for troops, environment, and maybe even new cinematic.
With the new update to Battle.net we grow more closer to seeing that happen.
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne was a very well received title back in the days. Many would remember it for its great storyline, while even more would recall how the trend for the Defense of the Ancients map started.
Recently Blizzard announced that it had cancelled its mysterious Project Titan MMO after being in development for seven years. The reason cited was that the game simply wasn’t “fun” and after countless failed iterations was hence totally scrapped.
