Minecraft Mod CivCraft Goes Standalone After Microsoft’s Acquisiton of Mojang

Renamed as Praxis, the Mod is has been now announced as a Standalone by Redacted Games. The announcement came just one day after Microsoft’s takeover of Mojang. The devs are also planning to involve users in the development of Praxis via its subreddit page.

Praxis is described as a “large-scale online multiplayer society-building experience, being developed by a small team of contributors from the Civcraft community and beyond”

According to the explanation provided alongside the announcement on why they decided to move from Minecraft and create a standalone, the devs wanted to explore the idea of their ambitious CivCraft not being shackled and by doing so, what possibilities it could have and the answer came in the form of Praxis.

Furthermore, they thought this could be the best way to monetize CivCraft before the $2.5bn takeover of Mojang by Microsoft.

“So we asked ourselves: What could that idea do if it was unshackled, and delivered to the end users via a bespoke engine entirely developed for the purposes of the deployment of this singular experience? And how can we best monetize it prior to the inevitable $2.5b Microsoft buyout?”

Praxis is being built on an engine created especially for its development and since the game has been in development for over 4 years, expectations are high. But what does this mean for Minecraft?
